My Daughter and Barney

My Daughter and Barney

This is a drawing of my daughter and her favourite teddy,
Barney, a mouse. Barney was bought for her when she was feeling poorly, and he has seen her through her exams.

She loved this picture, especially Barney.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Kathryn, your drawing is great, no wonder your daughter loves it! Good job!

I hope you have framed it for her, it is something she will always treasure.

Claudette

Claudette

Claudette

This portrait was made after one of the drawing lessons of Brenda Hoddinott.

It is quite easy to draw because you draw it by using a simple grid in order to set up the correct facial proportions.

It is one of my first portraits I have ever made.

***Note from Kerry:
I see you are still drawing beautifully, Jana. This is excellent.

Using A Grid

Using A Grid

My name is Ronald and I have been practicing grid art from this site.

I thought I would show how well I did. I did the best I could. Soon, I'll show you President Lincoln - it's finished but it needs blending and I still have the grids on it.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Ronald, thanks for stopping by and showing us how you are going! This is very good, you should be proud of your work.

Grids are fantastic, they teach you how to see properly. I'm so pleased you are practicing this.

1920s Art Deco Style Lady

Getting Ready For A Girls Night Out

Getting Ready For A Girls Night Out

This was my first attempt at using watercolour pencils on a portrait style piece of work.

The body of the work was done using a B graded pencil and was originally going to remain in just pencil, but I took the plunge and tried watercolour as well.

For a first attempt I was pleased with the outcome, although I think a better grade of paper shall be used next time.

***Note from Kerry:
Wow Mif! This is terrific, I love it!

Yes, the quality of paper does make a big difference when you do watercolor - according to my Mum, anyway.

Head of a Woman

This picture is a copy of a drawing of Vincent van Gogh. I like his drawings very much.

Last year I was in Amsterdam in van Gogh museum and also in Vienna where there was a big van Gogh exhibition in Albertina.

I drew this with a ball point pen.

**Note from Kerry:
Hi Jana, I love drawing with pen, it's great, isn't it? I really like this.

Portrait Of The Skull

This portrait was drawn with point-ball pen. The skull is made of plastic and was lent to me by my art teacher.

I have drawn several pictures of her and call her Jameela - it is an Arabic name and means beautiful, because I also study Arabic.

***Note from Kerry:
This is really well done Jana. It looks like a photo.

A Bit Star Trekky !

I copied this from a photo, sorry about the mouth Mick, you are far better looking than my sketch depicts! Must work on that aspect.

Mick is my mate of 30+ years, we met at school back in 1976!

***Note from Kerry:
I think you have done well, Mif.
Portraits are hard but the only way we improve is if we keep practicing. I'm sure Mick will be pretty pleased with it. Good job.

Mother Teresa Drawing

Hi..Kerry.
Drawing elderly people is such a challenging thing, since it takes more details on their face. I'd like to know how I've done with it.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Loetji! I think this is very good. I love the way you have done her eyes and skin. That is a great drawing. Show it off, you have every right to be proud of it.

My Distant Friend.

This is a sketch of my Friend who lives in Australia. I've never met him but chatted to him for years.

He also enjoys creating images, but is more into photography. He always asked for me to sketch him, so I chose a photo and here it is.

He thought it was great, he said I made him better looking, that's men for you. ''hehe''

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Katt, you have done a great job of drawing your friend. He looks handsome to me! Well done.

Portrait of Jack Sparrow

I like the movie "Pirates Of The Caribbean" very much. And one of my classmates likes Captain Jack even more than the movie itself.

She asked me to draw the portrait and I tried to copy one from the internet and here it comes!

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Ou Kan! That is so sweet of you to share this drawing here. I met you over at the Draw/Sketch forum and you know I love this! Thanks so much.

Young Child

Young Child

Young Child

I have been drawing for several years now but have only recently started to draw portraits. This is the first portrait that I have ever completed and even though there are several things wrong with it, I am actually quite proud of it.

In terms of the problems with the drawing, the ears and mouth are pretty poor. Mind you, I haven't really had much practice drawing them features. As well as that, I also think that the entire drawing looks rather flat.

However like I said, this is the first portrait that I have ever completed, so hopefully I might be better at drawing them in years to come.

I hope you like it.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Dan, portrait drawing takes a lot of practice and this is a fantastic start! It is an exciting subject because there is so much to learn.

I have been practicing for years now and I haven't gotten dejected or tired of it. You are going to do just fine. Keep going!

First try

by Eng Soon

First try

First try

This is my first try in drawing/sketching a human face. There are many mistakes, proportion is one of them, and I find it really difficult to do areas like the nose and hair. Just couldn't figure a good hair to go about doing it.

But for the first try I think I am quite happy with how the lips turn out myself. Wondering if anyone has any good site/tutorial to learn how to sketch. Thanks.

***Note from Kerry:
Eng, I give you points for being brave enough to show us your first attempt at portrait drawing - good on you!

There are many good free tutorials on the web, just do a search for whatever tutorial you wish to tackle first - eg. "tutorial for drawing hair" or whatever. Good luck, and don't forget to show us your progress. You're going to do very well, I can tell.

I love Drawing Tutorials Online - it's mainly videos.
You can also find lots of great tutorials on drawing forums.
Everyone is welcome to tell you which ones they prefer.
