Tigger

Tigger

I have been dabbling with coloured pencils lately and find them really good to use..

**Note from Kerry:
Not in a chatting mood today Boshy? I miss reading all about your latest experiments!

About Tigger, as usual, he is of very high standard. It's almost like a photo! I am presuming you have gone with your favorite brand of pencils - Faber Castell or Derwent, maybe?

Thanks, once again, for sharing your lovely work with us.

A Horse

A Horse by S.T. Allion esq.

I started painting and drawing exactly one year ago on the 25th Dec....

My Brother bought me a Cotman watercolour paint set for Christmas now I've retired, to fill my time...but I was not prepared for the way it has completely taken over my life...I draw/paint every single day now and if I don't do it one day I get withdrawal symptoms???

Sounds daft don't it?...I am frightened to death of adding up the money I have spent on Art supplies this year...I had nothing not even a pencil...I had loads of paper though...for my printer hehehe... paper is paper right!!?... or so I thought...I didn't know if I could draw or not but I gave it a bash and ...it turns out I can draw!

Anyway about Feb this year I had a crack at doing a horse which at the time I was quite chuffed with...and last night I did another one in Pastel pencils that I bought yesterday...and what a massive difference between the two...amazing!!!... at least I can see myself improving...heh...I couldn't really have gotten much worse...

I know there is loads of room for improvement from this attempt, so I will do another one in about six months to see if there is much difference again...all the best

Boshy.

**Note from Kerry:
Boshy, I have to say I am completely impressed with your work. I can relate to your feelings about how art has taken over your life. This is what I want for everyone, to understand the joy and completion that art can provide for us.

A Horses Mate

A Horses Mate

A Horses Mate

After doing A Horse in Pastel Pencil, I decided it looked lonely so I thought I would do it a mate to keep it company.

So now there is a little set...I did this one facing the other way so they look at each other on the wall.

I only have prints of them as the originals have gone to a good home and to my surprise I have been asked for several signed prints off people...fancy that!...so, I've been sending out signed prints all week hehehe....

**Note from Kerry:
Congratulations Boshy! Well done.

Half Naked Horse

Half Finished Horse Drawing

Half Finished Horse Drawing

Some of you have asked how I did my Drawing of the Horse...I'm not very good at explaining how I do it because I'm not too sure what I do...I just keep putting layers on until it looks right...

I scanned this picture in as I was in the middle of the drawing...(I like to do this so I can look back after and see how it progressed)

...if you look at the neck of the horse you will see the base colour layer I have put on...I am using pastel pencils only....Faber Castell and Derwent brands in particular.

I have only recently started with the pastel pencils after a disastrous effort with Pastels and this horse is my first serious attempt after watching one of Colin Bradley's instructional DVD's...he makes it look so easy but it's not...but he is a very good teacher and I got a tremendous amount from the Instruction...I would recommend any of his DVD's to anyone wanting to have a try at this medium.

I have gone head-long into Pastel pencils in a big way now and am doing all kinds of works...I have just finished a custom Drawing for some friends of their house It's a grade 2 listed building of an old pump house...if I can scan it in somehow I will put it up for you to see how versatile this medium is...but the picture is too big for the scanner...I will take a photo of it instead and hope it does the colours in the Drawing justice.

Happy Drawing, Boshy

**Note from Kerry:

Hi Boshy! Wow, thanks so much for sending this in to show everyone. I get so much feedback on your drawings, you have a lot of fans.

Once again, thanks for giving us your valuable time, it's appreciated.

Chilly Willy

Chilly Willy

After seeing my horse piccy, my mate hinted that his girlfriend loves Penguins

...I took the hint and thought It would be fun to try a penguin but because I had no reference material I went on the Interweb to a Royalty Free picture site and downloaded a couple of penguin photo's to work from.

...unfortunately I couldn't find a picture just like I wanted but I had enough Info with the pictures I did have to make my own up and this is the result...I just finished it yesterday...my mate hasn't seen it yet but I'm sure his girlfriend will like it...I Hope!!

**Note from Kerry:
I'm sure she'll love it, Boshy. I think it's fantastic.

Hamish 3 Heads

The Making Of Hamish

The Making Of Hamish

Here is a drawing I am working on at the moment of a friend's dog called Hamish.

Again, I am using a mixture of Faber Castell and Derwent pastel pencils...sometimes when I do backgrounds, I will use soft pastels but I am not very good at controlling them, especially for detailed work, so Pencils I find to be easy to control and use.

One thing I have found, is that as a medium, Pastels and Pastel Pencils are very forgiving and if you make a mistake (which I do often) then you can just draw right over it which is quite handy.

..I would recommend anyone who likes drawing to have a go with these and I bet you will surprise yourself with the results...even you Kerry, you should give it a bash.

Anyway, when I finally finish Hamish, I will post the completed works for you all to comment on...and I welcome constructive criticism seeing as I am only a beginner.

All the best,
Boshy.

** Note from Kerry:
Gosh, I forgot you were a beginner Boshy! Your work is so good.
I'm looking forward to trying these pencils out. I'll make no promises though, when that'll happen!
