Long Tail Bird

Long Tail Bird

Long Tail Bird

I had seen a similar picture of this bird, on the internet in black & white. Its shape and very long tail caught my eye, so I decided to give it a shot.

When I drew this particular bird, I had him perched on a branch of this tiny tree. I then added a running stream and some grass along the river banks.

I sketched everything with a #2HB pencil and than added some color with oil pastels.

Now when I look at my drawing, I find myself becoming captivated and lost in its peacefulness. Hope you like it too!

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Tracy, I think your drawing is gorgeous! The colors are peaceful - you have created something special.

Ink Bird

This was my second attempt at ink drawing ... my first one was a complete failure and I almost didn't try it again but I'm glad I did cause after finishing this drawing I love ink...

i used ink and ink wash and applied it with a paint brush that had a very fine tip :D

***Note from Kerry:
Wow Danielle, this is very striking and so professionally done. See, persistence really does pay off doesn't it? That's the secret key to drawing.

I did a bird last night because I liked the color. I couldn't find my eraser so it's showing some light through the red.

I hope you like it.

Hi Ronald, it's always a pleasure to see what you have produced. I love seeing that you are experimenting with color and that you enjoy it.

Drawing of my Bird

Drawing of my Bird on a tropical island

Drawing of my Bird on a tropical island

I've had this bird for some years now and she's been through alot. At first we though it was a boy, but when she turned 9 three eggs popped out of her. Too bad she doesn't have a male to be with.

I drew this while looking at a pic I took of her. Everything else came from my mind.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Vegar
Wow, I love your drawing - you've created your bird as though I can touch it. She's lovely, great job!

Christmas Robin

by Sandra Busby
(East Sussex, England)

Tis the season...

Tis the season...

I decided that a good way of sharing my new hobby with others is to make a Christmas Card for the people I care about instead of buying them from the shops like I would normally.
Robins are a regular visitor to the bird table outside of our kitchen window at this very cold time of year, and they have inspired me to draw this Christmas Robin, then paint it using Watercolour, and turn it in to a card.
I know that once again I have sent a painting, but I plan to share some more drawings soon.
Besides, since I can't speak to the people who are kind enough to comment on my pictures, it's my way of wishing everyone who looks, a really fabulous Christmas xx

Note from Kerry:
Thank you Sandra, you are very sweet. I hope you have a nice Christmas with your family.

Pheasant wing feather, male ringneck

Pheasant wing feather, male ringneck

I needed to learn to draw and illustrate living things during my career as a science instructor. Portraying information accurately and making careful observations are important skills, especially necessary when recording information as empirical data.

The size of the model for this feather reproduction is about 7 mm x 4 mm. The finished model is 15 cm x 8 cm and I used pastels over the original sketch to show the colors in this exquisite imported resident of our local fields and bosque (delicately balanced riparian cottonwood forest unique to this area.)

Note from Kerry:
Hello Denice
Your drawing is absolutely beautiful! I feel as though I can reach out and touch the feather - I can feel the softness. Thanks for sharing it here, it is such lovely work.

CD Bird

CD bird

CD bird

How about reusing CDs?

I've stuck 4 CDs around one in the centre and put paper mache on them that I used as the drawing board. I didn't know how to fill up the space, and then I thought of this bird .... to fill-up properly.

I know i need to improve a lot, and bring out the bad drawings, one by one.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Viswanath,
It's good to see you are still using your creative mind to come up with interesting ideas. Your CD bird looks very colorful.
