This is Lord Subramanya. He is a popular Hindu deity. He is also called Kartikeya, Skanda and Muruga. Kartikeya symbols are based on the weapons - Vel, the Divine Spear or Lance that He carries. This symbolizes His purification of human ills. You can see his vel in this picture.

Lord Ganesha
by arish john andrews
(india kerala)
Lord Ganesha -(Vighneshvara - Remover of Obstacles)
This is a glass painting of Lord Ganesha. Ganesha or Ganesh, also known as Ganapati , Vinayaka and Pillaiyar, is one of the deities best-known and most widely worshipped in the Hindu pantheon (INDIA).
His image is found throughout India and Nepal. Hindu sects worship him regardless of affiliations. Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains, Buddhists and beyond India.
Although he is known by many other attributes Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, Vighneshvara patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom.
He is honoured at the beginning of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as Patron of Letters during writing sessions. As the god of transitions, he is placed at the doorway of many Hindu temples to keep out the unworthy.
I try to use some of my paintings like 'Sree Buddha' and 'Lord Ganesha' as a medium to portray the various cultures and religious aspects of India.
***Note from Kerry: Gosh Arish, your artwork is fantastic. You are a very good artist indeed. Thank you for the terrific explanation too, it's all interesting.

Nartana Vinayaka
by Jubi
(Ekm,Kerala,India)
Ganesha is a very popular god of Hindus. Hindu tradition states that Ganesha is a god of wisdom, success and good luck. The Hindu tradition calls Ganesha as the Vighneshvara or Vinayaka which means one who is the lord of obstacles or difficulties.
Thus, the Hindu tradition states that by worshiping Ganesha, one can remove all obstacle and difficulties.
This is a picture of Nartana Vinayaka...means Dancing Vinayaka...
This is a glass painting.
***Note from Kerry: Hi Jubi, I notice there is no shiny area on the glass painting so I'm thinking you have used plain color paper behind the glass. How did I do?
I love your dancing Vinayaka, you've done a mighty fine job with details and the effect of movement is perfectly done. The dash of gold sparkle on his pants is wonderful.
