Downtown

Downtown Sioux City Iowa

I ran across another old photo of downtown Sioux City, Iowa. This one is a drawing of what it looked like in the 1940s.

I really enjoy drawing historical buildings. It is quite the challenge with all the lines and shapes.

The clock tower still stands in Sioux City, and today it is over 100 years old. The clock is no longer there, but I think is still a fantastic piece of our history.

It seems I really need to invest in a ruler for the straight lines. Even though I am really happy with the way this one turned out.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Patty, it seems to me that you don't need a ruler at all. Your lines are perfect. I prefer to see a little wobble in the lines than to see perfectly ruled lines. It makes the drawing more "yours". It's very good!

About the ratings
by: Kerry

Hi Patty
I'm sorry to say, there is no way around the ratings. If I were you, I'd rather select the 5 stars than the one star, when commenting on your own piece.

We don't mind, it's fantastic to get responses from the residing artist.

The green in this drawing is grass. It took quite a bit of research to find that one out, but I wanted to be accurate if I was going to add a little color to this piece.
Thanks for the comments and ratings. By the way, does anyone know how I can reply to comments without rating my own piece. After all who would really want to comment one their own work with anything less than 5 stars. LOL.

Great Drawing

Never buy a ruler( for drawing)! Lines should never be perfectly straight in drawings! I like how you added that little bit of color in only one spot in this drawing, but the color looks a little too green. It makes the water look a little dirty (that is water right?). I love the detail in this drawing.

Super!

I agree totaly with Kerry - Don't buy a ruler! Drawings tend to look 'sterile' when the lines are all perfect. Your picture looks vibrant and I think if you did it again with a ruler you would see what I mean - it would look alot less interesting.
I really love this drawing - I think it has been very well done indeed. I'd be very proud of it if it were mine. Keep drawing!
