Nearly Home

by Roy

Nearly Home

Nearly Home

Graphite on A5 paper. Another first attempt. No where in particular, I drew this to remind me of lovely cold winter walks with my old Lab - sadly no longer with me.

The only thing wrong with the drawing I think is the power lines coming in from the left - should have put something in the foreground.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Roy, I can't see anything wrong with your drawing, I think it does a good job of portraying your lovely cold winter walks with your Lab.

Peaceful Field

Peaceful Field

Peaceful Field

I drew this whilst out on a brisk spring walk with my family. The scene blew me away so I sat down right there and then to draw the landscape. I gathered quite a crowed of people watching me draw, as i was sitting there for well over 7 hours!!

I am hoping you are liking this sketch, and watch out for others and their stories xxx

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Elle,
Wow, what a terrific drawing. I particularly like your bushes with the shade thrown on the ground. Good work!

I look forward to seeing some of your other drawings. I loved your story, too. Thanks Elle.

A Little Pond

A Pond

A Pond

I drew this a couple years ago, it is my first attempt on nature.

I couldn't find a simple scene for my reference, so I used my imagination.

***Note from Kerry:
Lucia, this is all the more beautiful because it is from your imagination. I've just taken a little peek into your sweet soul!

"A Glimpse Of Rajasthan (India)"

This is one of my best sketches.

This sketch expresses the life of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is a fully deserted place!! And a very calm place too, so please do visit Rajasthan!!

***Note from Kerry:
Sumit,
I can see why you like this one, I think it is a brilliant sketch, so very well done. I like your drawing style.

I did this drawing from a picture that I took on a beach. I used a HB and a 2B pencil, and quite a few hours of time.

Lake Drawing

by Fi

The Lake

The Lake

This is a drawing I did of a lake with a background of trees and a mountain.

When I began this, I was experimenting with light and reflections, like in the lake.

I really enjoyed working on this drawing because of the different shades of gray and black.

This was one of my first full drawings, but I think it turned out well for a first try.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Fi, I think you have done a splendid job for a first try! Good work.

Into The Distance

by Beth Tatum
(VA USA)

Into the Distance

Into the Distance

About 8 years ago I went to the Balloon Festival in New Mexico. It was amazing to watch the balloons all heading into the distance.

The one image that stuck in my mind is from a photo I took the first day. It was really windy that day so not many balloons took off.

This was one of the few brave ones that did and it was heading towards the mountains where the sun was rising.

The photo was a bit cluttered in the foreground, but the beauty of drawing is that I was able to remove the clutter and draw the beauty I saw.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Beth, it's great to see you are drawing things that make an impression on you. I feel as though I am seeing this balloon through your eyes! Good job.

A Leaf

by Sandra Busby
(UK - England)

A Leaf

A Leaf

I was walking our dog in the woods earlier in the spring, when I noticed this large autumn leaf. The other autumn leaves had all but rotted away, but this one had become caught between two branches on its journey down from the tree, which is why it had remained so perfect, despite the cold and snowy winter we had experienced.

I picked it up and took it home with me, where I shone a light on the leaf from one side to create an interesting composition, and began drawing it. Apart from the shadow, the rest of the drawing is made up entirely of cross hatching, and tiny lines using a fine pencil.

As you can see, I drew the underside of the leaf because the texture was more interesting with the veins protruding from its surface.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Sandra, this is fantastic! Wow! Thanks so much for telling us how you achieved your effects. Your leaf is gooood.

End of the journey

by Vegar
(Oslo, Norway)

I drew this for my Mom for Christmas.
It is a picture of a man standing on top of a mountain and looking out over the great ocean.
I wasn't really sure about what to draw when I started so i just drew some lines and used my imagination to visualise what the lines looked like. I really like the clouds and the flag :)

Note from Kerry:

Hi Vegar,
I really like the whole drawing. I like the way you did the mountain edge too. It's pretty special considering it came from your imagination - I'm sure your Mom will love it. Have a great Christmas!
