Vintage Car

Here I would love to receive comments especially constructive criticisms..cos I know my car is gone out of shape.

I was trying something different here..by finishing the car with maximum short pencil strokes and only the border line with continuous ones..guess the combination of both messed it up....

love to hear from u all...cheers..

***Note from Kerry:
It's still a terrific drawing Martin! The fact that you're experimenting with different effects makes it look like the final result is intentional. I like it, just like that!

It looks terrific
by: Rico

I think it looks great, just enough detail to give the feel of the car, yet leaving something to the viewer's imagination! I wish that I could draw cars this "loosely." Well done.

No Criticism
by: Anonymous

You said you wanted constructive criticism. I've tried to draw a real looking car, and all I got was a very very very basic, simple outline of a VW Bug. You put almost too much detail in this drawing, and that makes me jealous!

Doesn't need to be perfect!
by: Probal

The picture is awesome!

And from all my experience (of just a few years! ) ; i can say that art is not just about being perfect. its about the feeling it provides to the viewer.

Another thing, our dearest "uncle leo" (da vinci) said: "Art is never finished, its just abandoned."

Keep the good work, peace :-)

Charming!

I actually think that the fact it is not 'perfect' only adds to it's charm. I love it!

1962 Vauxhall Cresta

1962 Vauxhall Cresta

1962 Vauxhall Cresta

I have been creating pencil drawings for years, but I am also a classic car freak. I love both, so when you combine the two the result is the kind of thing you see here.

This is one of my favourites, a Vauxhall Cresta. I've done plenty of other cars and have sold a few reproductions of my drawings on e bay.

I hope this inspires anyone out there never to give up drawing things, whatever your subject.

***Note from Kerry:
Your drawing is great Dermot, thanks for reiterating the importance of never giving up.

1912 Race Car

by Josef Rocha
(San Jose,CA.USA.)

1912 Race Car

1912 Race Car

This is based on the race car "Babs".

The body was reworked to be a little more aerodynamic.

This took about 2 hours and I used a straight edge, a graphite pencil and blending sticks.

***Note from Kerry:
Gosh Josef, only 2 hours to produce something like this? I had better get back to doing more dedicated practice!

Thanks

Hi again Josef,
Thanks for sharing that interesting information about your air-brushing experience. That explains why your drawings are such high quality.

Quick draw
by: Anonymous

Hello Kerry. I used to airbrush t-shirts with very detailed paintings of clients cars and motorcycles.I had to paint fast to make decent money while keeping costs down for the customers. So it was easy to draw up something this detailed in the shortest amount of time.
Thanks for the compliments.I'll be posting more artwork in the future.

1915 Hispano Suiza

by Rico
(Stanton, Ca. USA)

1915 Hispano Suiza

1915 Hispano Suiza

This car is owned by a client. He drove it to Malibu, California, where I took pictures of it. I later drew this rendering of it.

This monster has an engine from a SPAD 12 fighter aircraft of World War 1! It 1,100 cubic inches of displacement! This car can go three times faster than I would drive it.

***Note from Kerry:
That's unreal information, Rico. If I could possess just one ounce of your obvious patience, I'd be one very happy person.

The 70 GTO is one of, if not the best looking GTO ever built.

This drawing was for my lovely wife who is a big fan of the GTO.

"Mix n' match?..."
by: Jim

The car was great. The talent is definitely there. My only suggestion is that you might want to change the title. The grille and fenders look much later than the 'T'... More like a '31 or '32 - but very much a Ford!

Thanks for sharing!

1913 Mercer Raceabout

by Rico
(Stanton, Ca. USA)

1913 Mercer Raceabout

1913 Mercer Raceabout

A celebrity owns this car, and he drove it up to a Southern California canyon location.

I tried to make the drawing look like a scene from 1913 so I didn't draw power lines, postal boxes, and other things that would spoil the scene.

If you look at the steering column, you will see a round piece of glass in front of the steering wheel, this is the windshield! How cool is that?

This was one of the first sports cars, it has a small engine in a light car, the recipe for making a great car.

***Note from Kerry:
That's an awesome drawing, Rico. Thanks for pointing out the windshield, it's amusing now but I am sure it would have been a luxury in those days.

Wow
by: Kerry

Thank you Rico, I appreciate that you gave a bit more information, it makes your work all the more awe-inspiring. I like observing negative space, however, when I try it my results are not so fantastic.

1913 Mercer Raceabout
by: Rico

Kerry;
As a further aside, the front spokes on the Mercer weren't drawn by me! They represent the "negative space" left after I had drawn all oh the other features in the front of the car. I thought you might enjoy that.

1940 Ford Willy

1940 Ford Willy

1940 Ford Willy

I have always liked the 40 Ford. However, the willy is awesome. I draw by looking at photos and enjoy this as one of my favorite pastimes.

I have been drawing cars since I was 12. But, like most, as you get older you find it hard to make time to draw.

***Note from Kerry:
Lee, your drawing shows your obvious love of cars. This is lovely work.

66 Chevy Step Side

66 Chevy Step Side

I have owned a few of these trucks in my past.

My dad passed away in 2001. The last vehicle he ever helped me with was a 64 chevy step side. I miss him and if I knew he was to die when I sold the truck, I would have kept it.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Lee, you have this great drawing and all the memories that go with it so that is a small consolation. I am sorry you lost your Dad.

1967 Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan

by Josef Rocha
(San Jose,CA.USA.)

1967 Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan

1967 Mohs Ostentatienne Opera Sedan

If you have seen photos of the actual 1967 Mohs Opera sedan, it was a big, bulky car designed around an International Harvester truck engine and chassis. The tires were filled with nitrogen. Entry into the car was through a rear door.

Unusual automobiles are my main interest and this one caught my attention.

I drew the Opera sedan with traditional proportions and normal side doors. It's not finished. I'll be redoing this drawing with a slightly longer wheelbase.

This is another freehand drawing done with a mechanical pencil.

***Note from Kerry:
Josef, it's obvious that you have a love of automobiles just by viewing the fantastic drawings that you produce.

Custom '55

Custom '55

1955 Chevy with a rake, no front bumper and a Moon tank up front. Custom reverse wheels with knock-offs mounted on whitewalls.

I think the '55 Chevy is the best looking of the 1956 through 1957 cars.

Graphite and mechanical pencil on paper.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Josef
I think you'll have a few fans staring at your great drawing and reminiscing about the good times.
