Christmas Eve Prayers

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

This is #3 of the 6 I have been working on.
I saw this picture on a cover of a magazine.....it just looked so innocent.....had to give it a go.

I used my usual mechanical pencil with a 2B lead, a mechanical pencil with an HB lead, a regular #2 pencil, and a combination of pencil shading and blending stumps.

I used Derwent Studio colored pencils for the lights. I am not happy with the way the lights turned out....I should have left them alone...but oh well. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Total time: a good 9 hours.

Note from Kerry:

Hi Michael,
Wow, what can I say? It is very obvious that your dedication to practice is paying off for you. This is a wonderful drawing to study. I was going to say "I love the way you have done..." but then I realized I would be rattling off everything. So, I'll simply say that I love the way you have portrayed this little girl, the expression is perfect!
This one rates up there as a favorite of mine.

The Armor

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

I drew this one based on Ephesians Chapter 6 verses 10-20.

I could tell you all about it, but I think it would have more impact if you looked it up yourself. Almost like a drawing treasure hunt....lol.

Some of you may recognize it as a Precious Moments character.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Michael,
What a great idea -- a treasure hunt!! I've noted the chapter/vs so I can look it up later tonight.

I think the drawing is fantastic, I love it.

Gorman Gael

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

This is a mural on the gym wall of the private High School that my wife graduated from. She went on to coach the Flag Team for a few years, and scheduling issues forced me to go with her most days. So, to pass my time, I would draw.

I just found this mural to be kinda cool, so I drew it.

She graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, and the team is called the Gorman Gaels. This is the Gael.

Celestial Beauty

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

Hmmm....I am not sure what to say about this one. I drew the woman first....and for a couple of years she had no background. Then one day I just got this idea to add a celestial type background so I could derive it as a framed wall hanging on imvu.

That was the time I also added the color using markers.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Michael,
The background is perfect! I really like that effect. She is drawn beautifully too, and I'm not surprised since it's your fav topic.

imvu Wall Hangings

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

Sorry this took me so long Kerry...but here is what the imvu wall hangings are all about.

imvu is a 3D virtual world...along the lines of Second Life, but way better. And in this virtual world, you create an avatar, and that avatar can do so many things.

You can even set yourself up in business. By "deriving" 3D products to be used in 3D rooms, that you can own and decorate any way you want. The rooms, and products you buy them with virtual credits from the "catalog".

This is what I do, I make rooms, furniture, and these....wall hangings that you hang on the walls in your 3D rooms. Oh, by the way, that's my avatar pictured in the product page, his name is Miznike69.

***Note from Kerry:
Impressive stuff, Michael. Thank you very much for going to the trouble to explain it all to me, you're such a good sport!

I thought the avatar looked a shade like Michael Jackson -- don't tell me that's another wish that went unanswered? lol

Cool Sun

Cool Sun

Cool Sun

This drawing was actually inspired by a commercial....I don't remember the commercial much now...this was done about 15 years ago....but I still like it.

I use a Parker Mechanical pencil for pretty much all of my drawings with a regular #2 pencil for certain areas....otherwise, it's all mechanical and shaders.......

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Michael, it is great - my favorite bit is the clouds although I think the eyebrows are pretty cool, too!

Sunflower

by Michael Betz
(Las Vegas)

OK...have a few more experiments to share with you all. First one I call 'Sunflower'.
It is water color paint on 4 x 6 glossy digital photo paper.
I am not real pleased with this one...but I guess it's ok. Oh, and this is my fist water color painting as well.

Note from Kerry:
Hi Michael,
Wow, water color on glossy paper? Man, you are adventurous! It is vibrant, I like it.
I think water color is hard enough using the best water color paper around. I tried it once on a cheap brand of w/c paper -- won't do that again!
I give you top points for this experiment...
