Easy Pencil DrawingsI love finding easy pencil drawings that I can copy. Then I marvel at how clever I am, because I drew that! I draw what I know I'm capable of drawing and when I move on to more complex subjects, it amazes me that I can achieve a remote likeness! This obviously comes about because of the amount of practicing that I do and it all works towards encouraging me to push boundaries. I can't stay with simple drawings forever, I'd surely lose interest. I am saying this so you can move forward with your drawings, too. ![]() To begin drawing, these are the type of easy pencil drawings that you would look for, ones with lots of white space.
Drawing MaterialsI think that the greatest benefit of this pastime is the basic tools that are needed to start.
All you need is a 2B pencil, an eraser and paper. I use photocopy paper because I find it easy to erase on that surface, plus it makes it easy to scan my drawings into my computer. I also have a cheap sketch pad that I carry around with me. I don't worry about the quality of the paper, these easy pencil drawings are for my practice purposes only. The other benefit is that I don't worry about ruining the book and wasting money. My favorite pencil is a mechanical pencil with a 2B lead. This saves me time because I don't have to sharpen my pencil, and I don't lose concentration. A mechanical pencil works by clicking the end of the pencil and this pushes the graphite lead through the tip. The graphite leads come in different sizes, it doesn't really matter which one you use at the start. I am using .5mm. I consistently use 2 erasers. One is a good brand and the other is a kneadable eraser. Neither of these is expensive.
I use the ordinary eraser to rub out large amounts of the drawing and I use the kneadable one to get at the finer parts without disturbing too much of the drawing. The kneadable eraser is very soft and pliable. You can shape it into a fine point to get at finnicky bits. It doesn't leave a residue like the ordinary eraser, so it's cleaner to work with. Later on, you will use an eraser to create features in your drawings. It's a handy little tool!
Imagine Teaching Yourself To Draw!Drawing is a skill that anyone can learn. All you need to do is try. Once you start, your skills develop at a rate that will surprise you. Before you know it, you'll be experimenting with drawing or painting in all of the different mediums. It gets to the stage where you just don't know where to begin, there's such a huge range of mediums to pick from. I love to wake up and look at the drawings that I did the day before. I feel a sense of wonder and it's such an exciting experience. I want you to experience these emotions. Just as you learn to walk before you run, well, you need to start with easy pencil drawings before you progress on to more complex sketches. This drawing below looks complicated but look at it more carefully. ![]() The only thing that has an outline is the building. All the rest of the picture was created with small strokes. I love to see the trees emerge out of those little lines. When you look at it further, you begin to see people, a swan, and all sorts of stuff. I find this type of drawing so intriguing. No skill required, but lots of fun to be had. These are the type of easy pencil drawings that I want to explore. I copied this drawing from page 32 of the art e-book, Learn Art The Easy Way.
