First try

First try

This is my first try in drawing/sketching a human face. There are many mistakes, proportion is one of them, and I find it really difficult to do areas like the nose and hair. Just couldn't figure a good hair to go about doing it.

But for the first try I think I am quite happy with how the lips turn out myself. Wondering if anyone has any good site/tutorial to learn how to sketch. Thanks.

There are many good free tutorials on the web, just do a search for whatever tutorial you wish to tackle first - eg. "tutorial for drawing hair" or whatever. Good luck, and don't forget to show us your progress. You're going to do very well, I can tell.

I love Drawing Tutorials Online - it's mainly videos.
You can also find lots of great tutorials on drawing forums.
Everyone is welcome to tell you which ones they prefer.

Thanks all, and yeah, proportion is really wrong here, I didn't notice it until I was doing the shading part, will need to pay more attention to it. Hope to improve in my next few works, currently am looking through some tutorials and observing the works of some amazing artists.

As for charcoal, I will remember it, currently I only have a pencil and eraser by my side.

I don't think there are too many mistakes in this drawing. I only see one: proportion. Still, if you look at each detail individually, that detail looks real. This is a great drawing.

Good effort!

I think for a first try this is really good. She has a lovely sparkle in her eye! If I could give you any advice, I would say try drawing on big paper with charcoal (I use willow) - because lines can just be rubbed away and altered really easily until you are totaly happy, whereas pencil is much harder to correct without being obvious. Also, beautiful highlights can be lifted out with an eraser, which is great for creating shiney hair. The contrast you can get with charcoal is great. It is very messy which takes some getting used to, and you need fixative (hairspray will do) to stop it smudging when complete. Try it! Once you are more confident, try pencil again.
