The Making Of Hamish

The Making Of Hamish

Here is a drawing I am working on at the moment of a friend's dog called Hamish.

Again, I am using a mixture of Faber Castell and Derwent pastel pencils...sometimes when I do backgrounds, I will use soft pastels but I am not very good at controlling them, especially for detailed work, so Pencils I find to be easy to control and use.

One thing I have found, is that as a medium, Pastels and Pastel Pencils are very forgiving and if you make a mistake (which I do often) then you can just draw right over it which is quite handy.

..I would recommend anyone who likes drawing to have a go with these and I bet you will surprise yourself with the results...even you Kerry, you should give it a bash.

Anyway, when I finally finish Hamish, I will post the completed works for you all to comment on...and I welcome constructive criticism seeing as I am only a beginner.

All the best,
Boshy.

** Note from Kerry:
Gosh, I forgot you were a beginner Boshy! Your work is so good.
I'm looking forward to trying these pencils out. I'll make no promises though, when that'll happen!

It is true

I have no reason at all to lie to anybody...I gain nothing nor do you...It's true I class myself as a beginner, I have been drawing and painting for just over a year...prior to that I had no experience nor any interest in it...but that said...I have become what I can only class as addicted to drawing and Painting (watercolours) now and spend quite a few hours daily doing it...every day...If I skip a day I get a type of withdrawl and can't wait to get a pencil in my hand...I have also spent a small fortune over the year on equipment and probably an equal amount on Instructional DVD's and Books...so although I have only been doing it a relatively short time...I have spent probably the same amount of hours as a normal person might spend over 4 years...also I have been not just buying books but Actually READING them too, and the same with the DVD's...I suppose we all have different levels of commitment to our Art...depending on circumstances etc...I am lucky enough to be retired at 46 and because I am Divorced (and loving it) I can spend as little or as much time as I like on my Art without anyone moaning at me...and because I am on my own (apart from Lucille the Cockatiel) I can spend ALL my money on stupid things like ME!...So get a good book and a DVD Ginger and get your Coloured Pencils out again...It's amazing but I find the more I practice ...the better I get!!...go figure??...all the best Boshy...
