by Kaye

My first drawing on my Granddaughters graduation.

Please tell me the changes I need to do?

Note from Kerry:
Hi Kaye
You have created a wonderful keepsake for your granddaughter and you should be very proud of your efforts, it's fantastic! I can see you are improving so please keep going.
Oh, and by the way, I wouldn't change a thing on your drawing.

My suggestions.
by: Bill Richards

Please take this as a constructive criticism that it is. EVERY artist can improve. (I, myself have been drawing close to 30 years, and there are things that I am still learning). What I would suggest to you in your piece is that you have it basically monotone. If you are just wanting it as a pencil "sketch" then fine. The three shades are ok. If you are wanting to get to a pencil portrait then remember to blend your darks down to your lights. Use the H pencils (especially the 2H I found - as your primary shade.) I always teach my art students - you are basically shading the shadows.. the lights will take care of themselves. If you use a 2H, H, HB and the very extreme a B pencil - you will cover the ranges very well. Give a little more details in the eyes and watch the "glint". The eyes are more realistic when you really put in the lights and how the light reflects off a watery subject.

Changes??
by: Michael Betz

A very good drawing. I wouldn't say you need any "changes".....the only thing I would suggest, is to add more.......the lightness is prolly your scanner, so there is probably not much you can do about that. But, just add some darkness to certain shadowed areas, render the earrings a little more...just little touch up things like that. Are you useing any shaders? Like tortillons, or blending stumps? You did do a fantastic job on this drawing...don't change a thing....just add to what you got......you are very good.....
