Wooden Boat On The Shore

Wooden Boat On The Shore

Okay, this isn't a drawing so maybe I shouldn't have included this, but it was my very first attempt at the next step - using Watercolour.

I took my little boy, his friend and our dog to the beach and came across an old wooden boat on the shore. It was along the same stretch of beach that my Nan, who has now passed away, used to take myself and my sister for walks when we were little. We used to search for slipper shells.

I sketched the scene and then took it home to paint. I had got myself some Watercolours some time before but had always been scared of using them since I knew nothing about painting other than what I had learned by reading various books.

Although it is littered with mistakes, I learned so much from doing it and I enjoyed every brush stroke!

Note from Admin:
Hi Sandra,
I think this is fantastic! For your very first attempt at watercolor, I am absolutely in awe of your talent.

This painting also shows that your sketching skills must be pretty good!

It looks like a picture taken from a camera!
by: Anonymous

When i first looked at that painting, i seriously thought you took a picture with a camera. and then i read your description and i was in awe. I wish i could even come close to that talent. I don't see any mistakes at all. GREAT JOB!

Thank you
by: Sandra Busby

Thank you to everybody who has taken the time to comment. This was my first watercolour and the fact that now I can see the mistakes I made tells me how much I have learned since I started. Never throw your drawings out - because it's a good way of looking back and seeing how much you have improved. I would never have believed even three years ago that I could have painted this, but already I know I could do better - and if I can do it, anyone can. All you need is to really 'want' to learn, and it will come.
I am due to put some more recent peices on the site soon, and you will see the difference between what I have put on when I started, to what I can draw now. I still have a long way to go and alot to learn and it's nice to be able to share my progress with other and watch others do the same.

Amazing!
by: Anonymous

You said the painting was "littered with mistakes", and I don't see any. You should have never been afraid to use the water colors! I will never be able to paint something so realistic!
