Drawing Narcissus

Narcissus, Here's Looking at You
These narcissus are named after a Greek/(Roman) man who spent so much time admiring himself that he was turned into a flower.
I was learning how to shade the petals and drew this picture to illustrate some features of monocots; leaves with parallel veining, petal in multiples of 3 and usually showy flowers, with large corolla areas.
Note from Kerry: Hi Denice Your drawing is so very pretty. I can't quite pick what you have used to color it, is that watercolor?
Anyway, all that is missing is your signature and a frame. It's beautiful, well done!

Butterflies and Flowers
by Sue Bledsoe
(Tennessee)
Light sketch to be colored
Kerry, This is the sketch I want to add color to.
I tried to describe it to Michael so he could give me some advice. I did it very lightly, but I don't know which medium to use of how to begin.
I hope it is clear enough to see. (Is it ok to do that on this site?)
Note from Kerry: Hi Sue Your sketch looks so pretty, my first thought was that this would look lovely if you go over the outline with a permanent fine tip ink pen and then place a dash of watercolor pencil just inside the outline. Make sure the ink is dry before you get a fine paint brush, dip it in some water and gently touch the bits of color that you have added here and there. The water grabs the color which spreads only to bits where water is added.
Oh, I should have asked what paper it is drawn on! Silly me. My idea would only work properly if it's done on watercolor paper, der.
I'm hoping to talk about this exact topic in this month's (June 2011) newsletter!

Beautiful Lily
by meme DJ
(saudia arabia )
Purity, honesty and love
The beautiful lily gives you the feeling of purity, honesty and love. Thus my lovely fiancée drew it and gave it to me. In return i want to surprise her and publish it through this website. I also would love to hear your criticism. By the way, all the information required by the website is going to be hers.
best regards
Note from Kerry: Hello Meme DJ and Meme DJ's fiancee Thank you for showing us your beautiful lily drawing. I did experience a feeling of peace as I gazed at this lovely work of art. Congratulations Meme DJ, I think your drawing is simply stunning!

Sunflowers in Vases
by Cindy
(Bloomington, Indiana USA)
I painted this using acrylic paints...Sunflowers come in so many different sizes it was hard to choose which way to go with it. Some Sunflowers have huge centers w/small petals and some with small centers and large petals. Sunflowers are a natures wonder too! Beautiful, wild and you can eat the seeds! Yummmm! I thought I had uploaded this one already but only to my computer and not on Kerry's site! Oooops! Well, here it is! Hope you like it! Your friend, Cindy
***Note from Kerry: It's beautiful Cindy! Sunflowers are a wonderful subject to portray and their variables only add to their charm. Your painting pops!

Pitcher of Lilies
I drew this pitcher of lilies from a picture in a book. Not all of the tones show up in the jpg file but you get the gist of my drawing.
***Note from Kerry: Hi Jo This is certainly a drawing to be proud of! It is so lovely and I know I'm missing out on much more because of the scanning process. You've done a great job!

From the heart
I don't think i should say anything special about this. I made it for someone.
Note from Kerry: Hi Kitty, I see now that it is your drawing called "Mothers Day". I will add your name on to that drawing in just a moment. For this one, I really do wish you would say something special about it so we can relate to the feelings you were experiencing at the time you drew it. It truly is beautiful!

Thanking you! - PURNIMA G.S
Note from Kerry: Hi Purnima I think your drawing is beautiful, the colors are lovely too. Is this done with color pencil?
Purnima, you can tell us more about you and why you love to draw if you can't think of things to say. Short sentences on pages void of constructive content are no longer accepted, I am sorry to say, but they're the rules that I have to abide by.

Lily on my Floor
by Denice Jackson
(Los Lunas, NM)
Tiger Lily in the Bathroom
When renting my apartment I found several tiles damaged and decided to decorate them instead of replacing them.
This lily is a tiger lily, drawn with a mixture of Sharpies, nail polish (really!) and water colors. To keep the design bright I sprayed a clear spray protector on it. It is growing in my bathroom and everyone comments on it.
The drawing is freehand, and follows a door drawing of linum lewisii and a wall drawing of Gerberas.
Note from Kerry: Gee Denice, that is such a clever idea and doesn't it look fantastic? It's great to see you are using your talent in a very productive way. I love the drawing!

Martysathimum
by Jayme Betz
(Las Vegas)
This was drawn and colored by my daughter Jayme (10).
Marty had left a comment for her on one of her other drawings and he had asked her to draw a flower with color. So she did......
I decided to name it The Martysathimum. I only coached her a little on the leaves and stem and cleaned up the smudges around it in Photoshop...but the drawing and coloring was all her.
***Note from Kerry: Jayme, this is truly beautiful. Your choice of colors is magical, the effect is striking and I really love this drawing. Marty will be extremely pleased you drew this for him ... thank you!

I drew this Camellia for a friend's Mother, and then he wanted one. Then my Mum wanted one too.
So I did a few in various colours, even though the original flower is white.
***Note from Kerry: Hi Troy, Your interpretation of the Camellia is beautiful. Love your drawing, good job!

Fair daisies
by Amy Bond
(Idaho)
For the county fair this year, I have decided to draw these daisies.
The problem is, I don't have a clue about what to do now! It's not complete, but once it is, I'll post it up if I can.
Note from Kerry: Hi Amy Oh, this is so pretty! I love it!
In what way isn't it complete? Besides being colored, I like it just the way it is.
Amy, if you get the chance to send in the completed version, I will add it to this page... with a little reminder from you, if that's ok.
