The Duke

The Duke

In grammar school I loved to draw but once in high school the desire disappeared.

Now at retirement age, lately I can't seem to stop drawing. Several weeks ago I started drawing my e-pals online just to have something to chat about and now, I've fallen in love with drawing all over again.

I'm sure I need lots of help with my techniques. What I do is draw a picture with a regular #2 pencil and then trace over them with a gel pen. I use the gel pen because it works great on my computer when I use it to paint them. Here's a picture of John Wayne that I drew using this technique.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Carol, I am a Duke fan so I love your drawing! Thanks for sharing your technique, it's great.

You Will See More :)

I must admit, I worried that he might look a little soft in my drawing to portray the rugged cowboy that he was on screen. However, he was my hero as a child, he looked rough on the outside but he came across to me as one of the good guys ... yep, he was my gentle giant. Now that I think about it, how could I not make him smile ... growing up, he gave me and fan like you reason to smile. Thank you so much for your encouraging comment.

I'm glad you liked my artistic interpretation of "The Duke". I grew up watching John Wayne with my dad on the weekends and learned to appreciate him for the good, solid character/cowboy that he portrayed. Your comment was very encouraging ... thank you very much.

I liked the "Duke" too, and thought that you captured his lighter side. Good Job. Keep at it!!
