I started drawing about 12 years of age (now 60) and have just gotten back into it fully a couple of years ago.

I also started dabbling in acrylic painting, but that is another story.

When I retire on December 24th 2011 I will get into it fully. I can't wait!!

Note from Kerry:
Hi Dale
It's great to know you are going to have more time to draw and paint in the near future.

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing your portrait collection, thanks for sharing it! I couldn't pick a favorite because I like them all.

Does the year that you have noted beside each drawing represent the year that you drew them?

You have a great drawing style so keep up the good work!

I have added more drawings
by: Bill Richards

I have added quite a few drawings the last few days, but it seems that it isn't getting added. Now granted Facebook is the way to put things up RIGHT NOW. Since I wanted to help out other artists who are starting, that is why I am on this site. If my art can be posted, great; if not let me know.

Hi Dale
I have received your submission with a new collection of your drawings (thank you!) but I haven't had time to upload it yet. It went through just fine so you've done everything right. There are a lot to go through so I'm trying to do them in date order.

I hope to get to it this week sometime, I'm terribly sorry for being so slack.

Fluent Typo
by: Dale

Hi Lilly,
Thank you for your comments. I understand your 'English" quite well as I had a mother in law who was Italian and could hardly speak English. I spoke a little Italian so with a lot of hand waving amongst the English and Italian we managed quite well. Have you been to Perth? It is such a pretty city. My son in law comes from Melbourne. Where are you from originally?
I am going to try my hand at more portraits. I did a few as a child but never really got into it. I love painting, especially sunsets.

I love Portraits, both human and animal kind.. I especailly like to draw and paint Cats..

When you have time take a look at some of my art..
I ams o glad atht you laerneda bout Tonal values at your Art Group.. I attend my art groups often..

But as I am looking after mom who now has Demenrtia I do not have as much free time to surf art sites as I used to..

Looking at othersa rt always helped me a lot..

I am same age as you are..
Keep up the good work..

And remember: Practice really does make perfect..

Take a look at some of my work
by: Bill Richards

I hope you take a few minutes to examine some of my work, and you can see what I meant when I mentioned "tone". Portrait Art

Thank you for your criticism of my drawings. I have only just learned (last night at an art meeting) about tonal value, which I didn't realise before. I am self taught so am always willing to receive help in any form. Most of what I learned last night was on portraits so I am keen to do more. I also paint in acrylics, but have only been doing it for about a year. I am having so much fun with my art and look forward to the day I retire so I can devote more time to my passion. Roll on Christmas Eve! That's our retirement date.
Regards
Dale

Professional tips on your drawings
by: Bill Richards

Dale, as I was browsing through this site - I happened to come upon your drawings. They show prospect and potential. I hope you don't mind if I give you some friendly advice on your drawings. The biggest thing is give some more "tone" in your drawings. The biggest thing about pencil is the ability to go from the darkest dark to the lightest light. Take a look at some of mine, and let me know if I can help http://www.allaboutdrawings.com/self-portrait.html

Uploading
by: Kerry

Hi Dale
Each submission allows for 4 images so this page cannot be added to. That's no problem though, just go to the guest artist's portrait drawing page and fill in the boxes and upload your drawings with a story.

Thanks Dale, I look forward to seeing your recent work.

p.s. Thank you for buying my book, I really appreciate your support... what do you think of it?

Hello Kerry,
Yes, the year next to my drawings is the year I actually drew them. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Where the talent is
by: Sue from Tennessee

Australia must be the stomping grounds for all the artists. These are great. I know how you feel about getting more time. (Just don't count on retirement allowing it--I speak from experience). Wonder how many others contribute here?
