Tulips in color

I decided that I since I am beginning watercolor classes next week, I had better start practicing.

I lightly sketched it in with a mechanical pencil, then used a small tin of pan paints. I will never use those again. It is very hard to mix the colors.

This is the first page of my watercolor sketch book.

Note from Kerry:
Hi Sue
Your painting still looks really pretty! Love the colors you have used and managed.

Unfortunately, it's quite normal to make the mistake of buying the wrong materials when we experiment with different mediums. I chose the wrong watercolor paper! Believe it or not, the paper alone makes a huge difference with watercolor, I have seen proof of it.

So, will you be doing watercolor with pencils or paint? Or both? Are your classes with a local art group or with a college? I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. My Mum loves watercolor work but she said it is a tough medium to master.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your newest adventure! I hope you don't forget about your love affair with your pencil though :(
