Little Girl Drawing

by Karen Welter
(Joshua, Texas)

My name is Karen Welter. I have just started drawing about one month ago. I try drawing peoples faces and eyes and I just can't do it.

I was wondering if anyone out there that can help me get through this and any other tips that I can receive? I would like to get better at drawing. I have found that I truly love drawing.

Thank You,
Karen

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Karen,
Since you've asked for some advice, I've placed your drawing in the "Ask a Question" section so those with more experience can help you improve with some wise tips.

My advice is to start drawing simple things that interest you. Study first, then draw.

Drawing the human form is the hardest subject of all and first you really need to learn the basics of drawing -- that will give you a good foundation.

Sorry guys!
by: Kerry

Hi everyone,
I am so sorry I didn't see your comments until today!

Marty, it is fine if you send Karen the book. Thank you for your never ending generosity.

You don't need permission from me when Karen has given her email address here. Because I own the site, I am not allowed to contact anyone unless I get their express permission. It's a funny little cyber world but I respect the rules.

I agree
by: Michael Betz

I must agree, humans are very hard to draw, and faces are even harder. That took me the longest to learn and get the hang of.....one piece of advice that I recieved, is do not outline the lips and eyes.......that makes them look cartoonish, so now I try and create the 3D look by using blending and rendering. You know what source is AWESOME for learning some great techniques to drawing human faces? A book called "How To Draw Lifelike Portraits From Photographs" by Lee Hammond (prolly my fav artist, next to DaVinci). Her techniques and style are beyond description. Simply amazing work. I gaurantee you, just the first 3 chapters of this awesome book will improve your drawing 100x's. If you get the chance to snag this book, I highly highly recomend that you do......but, I think you hve a great foundation to start with....now just need shading, blending and rendering and you are good to go! Great work...keep it going......

Hi Marty
I can't send the files to Karen unless she agrees or asks me to (it's the anti-spam policy) so we'll wait to see if Karen answers here. Thank you for your never-ending kindness Marty.

Hello Karen:

Wow, for only drawing for a month you sure out did me. I think your drawing is just grand. I would like it if your line were a little darker. I'm not saying anything wrong about your drawing it's just that my eye sight isn't what it usewd to be.

If you ask Kerry for my email address and if it is ok with Kerry I have a couple of ebooks or PDF files that I would like to send you.

Or Kerry I will email it to you and you can email them to her. I think I have already emailed you the ebooks I am talking about.

Ok that being said Karen keep on drawing for the more pratice you do the better you will get and one of the best things you could do is ask the other artist on this great website. For every one of the artist that I have seen here are the best as far as I'm concerned.

With Warm Regards

Marty!
