Majesty

I saw a black and white photograph on the internet of a beautiful paint horse.

I wanted to try my hand at drawing this horse in pencil so I sat and made the attempt. I used 2hb, 2b & 4b pencils on sketch paper.

The results didn't turn out too bad, but I figure with time and practice I will get better.

I really enjoy drawing horses because they are a magnificent and beautiful animal. I really love horses.

***Note from Kerry:
I'd be very proud if this was my drawing, Christine! It is beautiful.

Portrait Of My Horse

Portrait Of My Horse

I have always liked to draw, but I have never been able to draw something that I am completely satisfied with.
There always seems to be something not quite right.

So, when I came across this website, I decided that I would give it another go. After spending the last couple of weeks practicing my drawing using various sketches from the site, I decided to attempt my first solo drawing.

I am very passionate about animals, and although it would probably have been easier for me to attempt something simpler, I decided to sketch my 3 year old gelding.

As I am fan of pencil drawings, I decided that that would be my style. I used a HB pencil to sketch the outline of my horse and then used the side of the same pencil to create the shading for his markings.

Like I said, this was my first attempt so I would really appreciate your comments.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Lisa! Welcome to the wonderful world of drawing. I am so happy that you have decided to give yourself another chance. It's not easy to draw from life when you are starting out so I give you a huge tick for bravery. I like your shading effects and I can't wait to see what else you can do. It's onwards and upwards from here. Well done!

Nearly A Horse

It's Nearly A Horse

It's Nearly A Horse

I have only tried to draw the heads and shoulders of animals up to now. Here is my first attempt at a full horse.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Ken,
Animals present a good drawing challenge, don't they? I think you've achieved a good likeness.

Do you wait overnight and then view your work again, on the next day? That is the part I love the most. I experience wonder that I drew that, and also I notice any errors that weren't obvious while I was involved in the drawing.

You can use your pencil to measure the size of the head in relation to the body, and to the legs. Then make little dots on your paper and map out the outline with these crude measurements. I find that helps.

I've said it before - I like your style!

Thunder Horse

(Sherwood, Mi, USA)

We have 5 horses. This was our first. He was a rescue wild mustang. He changed our lives as we worked daily with him.
My granddaughter loves him and always thought he was the winner of the Kentucky Derby she watched on TV.
I drew this for her as one of my first drawings. She has it framed and up on her bedroom wall.
I did this with a simply #2 pencil.

Note from Kerry:

Hi Kathy,
You have done an exceptional job considering this is one of your first drawings! Usually drawing a horse tests an experienced artist so you can pat yourself on the back, it is very special.

I drew this horse because I love the shape and its contrast in profile. I did the best I could and hope you'll enjoy it like I have.

**Note from Kerry:
I think you've done a great job, Ronald! It's so good to see you are enjoying your art. To turn out such good work must be rewarding for you.

Being particularly interested in pencil drawing, I was eager to start with a horse (my favorite animal).

So here it is, a simple, easy and basic sketch that gave me immense satisfaction. I hope my drawing inspires all beginner artists.

***Note from Kerry:
Wow, DP, that is a sensational horse drawing! You have a lovely, gentle stroke.

Paint Pony

Hello everyone.

Here's a drawing I did just using a # 2 pencil. I do have art pencils but I mainly use the pencil and paper that I keep on the coffee table near the television.

I would love for you to look at all my drawings and print them out for your children to look at and to color if they want. You could also use my drawings as a coloring book for your children. You could have them color them then save all the coloring pages for fond memories. Just an idea for all that are interested.

I do hope you enjoy it, print it out and let your kiddies color it.

Thanks....Marty!

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Marty
Your drawing is wonderful, you've done a great job of the pony.

Wild Horse

Wild Horse Drawing

This drawing was only a rough draft to see if I would be able to do horses. My daughter saw it and loved so she rescued it from the "circular file" that I had discarded it to.

She displays it on her wall and says it reminds her of running wild horses.

It just goes to show, that even rough drafts can be loved, so don't give up.

** Note from Kerry:
That's a good lesson, Teresa.

Pretty Mare

Hi AAD Friends,

I was browsing the internet looking for inspiration for my next drawing when I came across a picture of a beautiful horse head. Ideas immediately came flowing to me and I created the drawing that I called "Pretty Mare".

I really like the way her mane flows around her. I think it gives her a touch of elegance. I would really appreciate your thoughts.

***Note from Kerry:
Hi Lisa, I liked your "mane" effect too! That's a great drawing, well done.
