Spaniel
I did this drawing in December before things got hectic.
I used hb, 2b and h pencils ...It was fun to do with the long hair in the ears.
I might have rushed it a little as I wanted it finished before the Christmas week.
***Note from Kerry: Gosh Michele, you have sprinted straight to excellence! I can't see any sign of a rushed job.

Here' s another campfire drawing - it really becomes a challenge when the sun starts to set, lol, and old eyes, lol.
I used hb 2b 4b and h pencils kneaded eraser and tortillion on 70lb paper.
Note from Kerry: It's so great to study your drawings, Michelle. They contain lessons for all of budding artists. Thank you! Even without considering the failing light, I think you've done a fantastic job.

I drew this cat yesterday outside in the sun. I used mat board, i sketched it first with an hb pencil, then i used prismacolored pencils and verithin pencils. I also used a tortillion.
I will be giving this to my friend for her birthday.
***Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle, I hope you do a drawing for everyone in your family too, your artwork is very good - it needs to be spread around and treasured.

This cat is in progress hopefully finished in the next couple of days. I have worked on it for 2 hours. I have used hb 2b 3b 4b h2 and tortilioon so far. I will send in finished drawing when complete.
Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle, Thanks for sending this in as it appears now - this will give learner artists some idea of the initial stages of a drawing and how to place strokes etc. It is fantastic and I look forward to seeing the completed version.

Dachshunds
I drew this picture last week in one afternoon. I used hb, 2b and 4b pencils.
I liked the look in these guys eyes very soft and gentle.
I am debating on making a website to put all my drawings on. My oldest son is urging me to do this, he is also very talented in art.
***Note from Kerry: It is a nice drawing, Michele, and you have captured the expression in their eyes so very well.

Well an afternoon fire produced this little guy - he is done on stonehenge matt board - it picks up the colour great...
I used prismacolor pencils some prisma verithin pencils as well I used tortillion to blend a bit.
Note from Kerry: Michelle, this little guy is simply adorable. You produce stunning artwork so effortlessly, great going. Thanks for sharing the tip about the paper to use with color pencils, it's bound to come in handy for someone soon. Wish I was there with you...

Horse Drawing
by michelle chambers
(london on canada)
I used b 4b 6b 8b for his drawing and kneaded eraser to highlight tortillion to blend. I am actually doing a bit of practice as I have a drawing to do of Sophie a white horse. This was my second attempt, I think there was a big improvement compared to first attempt. I am finding the muscles to be more of a challenge then fur on dogs, etc.
Note from Kerry: Michelle, it is great to see you are pushing yourself to draw subjects out of your comfort zone. I think your horse drawing is absolutely beautiful. Well done!

I am back in my comfort zone ....lol... I used hb 2b 6b and extra black on 70lb paper tortillion and kneaded eraser also used.
Note from Kerry: Gorgeous drawing Michelle! I think you did a great job when you strayed from your comfort zone, you pushed yourself to discover you can draw anything. However, I think it's a good idea to always draw what interests you - that gives the most pleasure.

Horse - first attempt
by michelle chambers
(london on canada)
I used b hb 2b for this drawing and kneaded eraser to highlight tortillion to blend. . This was my first attempt . I am finding the muscles to be more of a challenge then fur on dogs etc
Note from Kerry: Michelle, for the first go at drawing a horse, I'd be fairly happy if it were mine. You've done a pretty good job. I admire all artists who post first attempts, it's a brave thing to do -- it shows me your courage and determination to succeed.

Horse 3
by michelle chambers
(london on canada)
Well, still not Sophie. This is the 3rd attempt at drawing the Arabian. I used hb 2b 4b 6b8b pencils, hmmm, not sure about this one either maybe a little improvement from #2. Back to horse drawing board before I attempt Sophie. ..I also used tortillion and kneaded eraser.
Note from Kerry: Well Michelle, it's obvious you are one determined young lady - you are not picking a simple perspective or taking the easy way out, that's for sure. To draw a horse is quite difficult and you have me very keen to see the one you are finally satisfied with. Your effects are great, I think it's mainly that you have to find the profile that shows off the Arabian the most.

Sophie Sleeping

Sophie
Well, I think I am done. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I know it was a challenge ..... Anyway I used hb 2b 4b tortillion and kneaded eraser... and Valium ...just kidding... maybe a little wine here and there. I used 70lb paper 14x17
Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle, ha ha, you are very funny! There's no harm in using a little of either valium or wine according to the occasion!
Again you have chosen a very difficult perspective, you sure don't believe in giving yourself an easy way out.
I am no expert but I think you need a little more shading to define the head against the body (it is closer so it needs to be portrayed that way)... hope you don't mind me saying so and I know how artists hate hearing it... but if I don't suggest it, who will? I hope Michael steps in here because he can give you more expert advice that will actually help you.
Michelle, I have to say I could not have done this any better (mine would not have been anywhere near as good as this!) so I am proud of you for tackling this difficult subject that is way out of your comfort zone. You will be a better artist for this experiment, that's for sure.

I used hb 2b 4b tortillion kneaded eraser on 70lb paper for this drawing of Sophie. I am hoping this is an improvement.
Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle, You have nailed this drawing to a tee! It's perfect! It's really lovely artwork in typical Michelle style - your friends are going to be over the moon with this one. Great work kiddo!

Well here is another one of those campfire drawings lol maybe with a little Beaujolais...
I drew him one evening using hb 2b 3b 6b 8b tortillions kneaded eraser on 70lb paper.
Hey Kerry maybe we should have a campfire all about drawings convention at my campsite - i will supply the campfire and the beaujolais lol It would be fun though too bad we are all scattered thru out the world.
Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle, That sounds so heavenly, wouldn't we have a blast all of us together? Yeah, the distance is a bit of a pain but I am so grateful we know each other virtually.
This drawing is so beautiful, I can even "feel" the texture of his coat - you have done such a good job of him.

Shepherd

(london ont)
I am not happy with the toy in his mouth - I drew him yesterday afternoon. I used 8b 6b 4b hb h 2h pencils and a kneaded eraser and tortillion on 70lb paper. I think because I did not like drawing the toy that's why I do not like it and could not get it right.
Note from Kerry: Hi Michelle It'd have nothing to do with the perfection you seek from yourself, would it? Honestly, I can't see a thing wrong with it! He looks completely happy to me and the drawing is excellent, as per usual.
